The Doc Sadler Band is a classic rock and blues group based out of Denver, Colorado. They appeal equally to fun-loving party-goers and music connoisseurs through a unique songbook that ranges from Motown to Marley; or Joe Walsh to Jimmy Webb.
They play songs from the Neville Brothers, Rolling Stones, & ZZ Top, and add to that wild set a reverential respect for the Dead. The band consists of: John Sadler (vocals), Chris Law (bass), Kenny Passarelli (keys, vocals), Adam Stern (guitar), Ben Rafferty (organ, vocals), Alyssa Medina (vocals) and Carl Sorensen (drums).
At nine years old, the music bug found little John Sadler in Texas. Singing and playing tamborine at tent revivals, he was even broadcast over local radio. His uncle gif†ed him a guitar and he's been a musician ever since. 49 years ago, Doc Sadler and his band walked onto the Red Rocks stage during off-season and promised they would play it one day. As the last remaining member with a dream, Doc got to play the rocks for the first time in July.
As a kid, he started playing piano as soon as he could reach the keys. But a series of uninspired piano teachers years later led him to accept the bassist’s position in my college roommates’ band. There was no turning back. Whether in a rock band, wedding bands, the pit orchestra, acoustic trios or latin jazz, he am can be found all over the city. Today, this is his band playing the music which inspired him for sixty years along the way.
Kenny Pasarelli’s 50+ year music career has earned him 21 platinum and gold albums, 5 gold singles and multiple top 10 chart hits through studio and live performances with Elton John, Joe Walsh, Dan Fogelberg, Hall & Oates, Stephen Stills and more. Writing classic songs like “Life of Illusion and “Rock Mountain Way” for Joe Walsh, he has etched his name into the annals of music history and continues his passion of music through his most recent contemporary classical albums “Twelve Twelve” and “The Miracle of Tepeyac.”
Adam Stern is based out of Denver, Colorado and plays guitar and pedal steel for numerous roots music artists. Adam’s original instrumental music has been the subject of feature articles in Vintage Guitar magazine and his sideman studio work has even made it to Sirius/XM’s “Outlaw Country” channel. His credits include side projects of Kenny Passarelli (Joe Walsh/Elton John), W.S. Holland (Johnny Cash), Sam Holt (Widespread Panic), Grammy winner Eric “Benny” Bloom (Lettuce), Brent Loveday (Reno Divorce) and Bill McKay (Leftover Salmon). He also backed Dierks Bentley on guitar at a Stanley Cup party for the 2022 Colorado Avalanche!
Ben Rafferty is a keyboardist and singer/ songwriter who has been performing his way across the country. Originally from from Auburn, NY where he got his start with the band American Monster in the early 2000's. Ben trekked around the country, eventually landing in Denver, Colorado in 2011 where he found a large thriving music scene that many only dream about.
Fans might know Ben Rafferty from such acts as Workshy, Shrnk, Mlima, Revalator, Phour Point O, Violet Breeze, The Cosmic Charlies, or sitting in with Colorado favorites - Shakedown Street, Coral Creek and The Dead Phish Orchestra as well as performing with Polytoxic's annual production of The Last Waltz Revisited.
Writing and recording music for the last 20 years, Ben has written hundreds of songs and he continues to write songs whenever inspiration strikes.
He can switch personalities - almost on cue - to create a new sound and feel behind a drum kit. That’s because since 2008 he’s played in 65 different bands and ensembles!
“All I wanted to do was play drums in a band,” he says. Sorensen studied drum performance at the Berklee College of Music and in Boston.
Carl studied directly with Paul Simon's percussionist Jamey Haddad. Outside of performing, Carl also teaches group percussion, and this year is finally taking the time to wind down and focus on building a music career that he enjoys.
Since beginning a new phase of life in Colorado eight years ago, a lot of opportunities have manifested for Alyssa. She has a full-time job with a FinTech company, and her music career has blossomed, inspired by strong female singers like Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt. While Three Days in the Saddle is retiring, performing with the band has fostered key collaborations with a variety of local musicians. Alyssa and Ben are the popular duo Violet Breeze, a name inspired by Alyssa’s Miniature Dachshund, Violet. Violet Breeze enjoys a busy schedule locally at Cactus Jack’s Saloon & Grill and the Woodcellar Bar & Grill, and at several venues along the Front Range. Alyssa also sings with Dr. Poz and Friends.
